Club foot

Oder: Talipes Equinovarus

The clubfoot is a severe malformation of the entire foot with an equinus position, rotation, internal rotation and bending of the entire footplate.

The clubfoot is usually congenital, rarely it occurs as a result of inflammation, injury or nerve diseases.

Treatment principle

The treatment of the congenital clubfoot begins shortly after birth with corrective casts.

A large part of these feet must later also be corrected surgically. An acquired clubfoot is also treated surgically by corrective bone cuts, the stiffening of the tarsal joints and tendon transfers.

Left: The club foot cast is very similar to a pigeon toe cast.

Middle & right: Terrible deformity of a worn clubfoot. A surgery was not desired by this patient, however, as he coped reasonably well.
