cavus foot

Or pes cavus

The cavus is characterized by a busted longitudinal arch.

Its causes are disorders of muscle balance, it can be congenital or acquired.

The term cavus covers deformities, which mainly affect the middle and the forefoot or even the entire foot including heel deformities. Triggered by diseases of the nervous system.

Treatment principle

The therapy is based on the time of diagnosis or after the onset of symptoms.

During growth, conservative treatment with corrective inserts can be attempted.

If this is enough not and there are symptoms such as forefoot pain, claw toe development or frequent sprains when walking, different surgical procedures are used.

In still "softer" deformities, the remedy is sometimes found with soft tissue procedures such as tendon lengthening and tendon displacements. In already "fixed" deformities, bone cuts are usually performed on the tarsus or on the heel bone.

Its causes are disorders of muscle balance, it can be congenital or acquired.

The line shows the longitudinal arch of this foot, that got this form only after an accident.
