Toes so ugly want to hide
after Vitek´s surgery full of pride !

interphalangeal Hallux Valgus

Special type of malalignment of the toe towards the outside.

Occurring either alone or in conjunction with the "normal" hallux valgus, this type of the big toe misalignment is a deformation of the proximal phalanx of the toe itself.

"interphalangeal" means "between the limbs."

The big toe has two parts, the proximal and the distal phalanx. In most cases the problem is located in the proximal phalanx, but also the distal phalanx could be deformed.

About the surgery

The goal of the surgery is to get the big toe straight again by removing a small bone wedge. This operation has been described by Akin. It can be used alone or in combination with other methods.

After the wedge of bone is removed, we stabilize the toe usually only by taping or exceptionally with one of our new screws, V-tek regular. The screw disappears entirely in the bone, and in spite of its enormous strength is a dynamic fixation. Therefore, the bone cuts heal faster as there is no rigid fixation of bone fragments and the slightest movements can stimulate bone growth.

We have also developed a bone cutting guide that makes this supposedly "trivial" operation reproducible and predictable in advance. It is now possible to precisely measure the x-ray image and then cut accordingly.

Before and after the correction of hallux valgus and hallux valgus interphalangeus.

The yellow lines show the deformity and the right big toe after the surgery.

The red lines show the deviation of the proximal phalanx to the outside before the operation, as shown by the joint lines.

After the correction, the hinge lines are parallel and the toe is straight.
